About Us

IDNR-TV (In Depth Natural Resources Television) was created in 2001 by Ivor Barr, a seasoned producer with over four decades in the film industry. He resolved to set the bar higher than mainstream reality television, to deliver Canadian content with substance. In 2006, the focus was bringing public awareness to Canada’s natural resources and its importance to the economy. One of the longest running independent broadcasters in the country, IDNR-TV aired from 2006 to 2023, on Persona Cable and Cablevision du Nord. Recognized with special presentations at international film festivals, IDNR-TV also created the first ever Mining Film Festival and ran the events for six years.
In 2009 we successfully resisted an attempt by an outside influence group to compromise our editorial freedom and force themselves as an intermediary in our operations.
Galvanized by previous work in northern Canada, we're eager to launch a new production at IDNR-TV: "SACRED SECRETS OF THE NORTH", which is currently in pre-production stage.
The crew:
“Now we dedicate our energy to a production that it's for us a passion, since having the privilege to discover and understand over many years, our Indigenous people. With "SACRED SECRETS OF THE NORTH", IDNR-TV intends to close the gap with compelling stories and visuals from the distant north. While so many seek meaning and authenticity in their lives, this series is sure to enlighten and inspire.”
ENDORSEMENTS :Dr. Matthew Coon Come, , Grand Chief of the Grand Council of the Crees, 2009"The North and First Nations are among Canada's best kept secrets. Our knowledge of living in nature, the wisdom of our elders, our culture, our language and our traditions are fascinating. I congratulate IDNR-TV for the initiative to realize a series dedicated to us. I am convinced that IDNR-TV will be an excellent ambassador for First Nations. This will be an opportunity to become better known and share our values.."Ghislain Picard, Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador"Our peoples, who have been present from time immemorial on these grandiose territories, are gaining a better understanding of the history and the fundamental heritage of this country. By this docu-reality, INDR-TV will contribute to the collective Cultural, artistic, political and historical reach of our communities and our people. We will be proud to participate in the content of this promising and positive initiative”John Longchap Chief, Mistissini Cree NationWe used IDNR-TV services for several years in producing media content in order to make our values , traditions, achievements and to make people at large to know our community and who we are as people. The work done brought added value to us .Deborah McCombe, Chair, Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum"Canadians may realize that natural resources are a major contributor to our economy. However IDNR-TV will now provide the public with programs that delve into the key issues we are facing in the industry, the people involved, what they do and the future of the industry.
My colleagues and I at the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum look very positively on this type of programming.
We applaud your efforts in developing this new communication vehicle and wish you success in this initiative".
Glenn J Mullan PDAC President 2017-2019"IDNR-TV broaches subject content touched by few competitors, filling a long- standing void in the mining industry, while serving to highlight modern governance and social themes including Aboriginal content, corporate social responsibility initiatives and reflecting the challenges and beauty of many of Canada’s remote communities.
I completely endorse the quality and capacity of IDNR-TV and would be pleased to offer more insight to any seeking confirmation or clarity about my endorsement".
Peter McBride, Ontario Mining Association"IDNR-TV is extremely important to add to the mix of viewing options being made available to the Canadian public. IDNR-TV offers a fresh look at the building blocks of the society and economy of Canada.
Best wishes for success in this important endeavour".
